Three Changes to Improve the Quality of Education and the Experience Our Students Receive

Q: What are three changes you'd like to implement here in Germantown to improve the quality of education and the experience our students receive?

TP: We need to create the metrics to measure the effectiveness of The Germantown Way. Without these metrics, we don’t truly know how our implementation of curriculum and standards are working.

Have a renewed focus on Reading and Math achievement. Those two subjects are hugely important to achieving success later in life. Our reading proficiency is 54 and math proficiency is 61. If we look at surrounding districts that rank ahead of us, we see scores for Whitefish Bay of 72 in reading and 69 for Mequon-Thiensville School District. Math proficiency is 69 at Mequon Thiensville and 71 at Hamilton. I’ve included other scores of districts that rank ahead of us and surround us.

I’d like to make sure that we are doing everything we can to not only prepare our students for college or university, but also makes sure that we are working with our community partners to get those students who want to work in the trades or other careers opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for life after Germantown School District.
