I think one important thing to share is a focus list. There is a lot of moving parts in the District all competing for attention, action, or funding. The School Board is a team. These are the items that I would attempt to bring to the table to see if the team would begin to consider and possibly act on the following (in no particular order):
1. Finalize ‘The Germantown Way’ metrics. Publish a “Parent Curriculum Guide” to inform parents of grade-level milestones. Where possible, determine previous year’s results versus these metrics so that we can begin to adjust and plan for the future. Ultimately, we need to set goals and measure results across the life of a student. (Near -term)
2. Ensure that current action taken within the District regarding racial incidents coming out of the Advisory Council on Equity is considered/adopted. Identify other stakeholders to help define a plan with measurable actions and goals. Work to ensure that progress is made in a positive way. Lead by example. (Ongoing)
3. Continue investigating where we can find a balance between managing and reducing our year-over-year expenses. Research if there is any possibility of reducing our longer-term expenses with regards to our debt (through debt refinancing or other possible actions). Investigate any other possible revenue opportunities – 4K, other charter school ideas that would not only attract students in our district but also from outside our district. (Ongoing)
4. We must answer the question: Where are the achievement gaps that need to be closed due to the pandemic? To be effective, we need to do the work in researching, identifying, and laying out a plan now for fall 2021. (Immediate)
