How would you address declining enrollment within the district?

My answer to “How would you address declining enrollment within the district?” from the Germantown Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum:

Work with the Village of Germantown and other communities in doing smart planning of new housing developments. We have to be mindful of the various amounts of space available within each school. I would want to avoid having to redraw school boundaries nearly at any cost.

We need to continue to show that the programs that we offer are as good, if not better than alternatives.

We need to continue to show that our focus or our priority as a District is on the educational fundamentals - reading, writing, math and other important topics that help round out student’s educational experiences.

I believe that we have a compelling story compared to the perception of what the general public school district's narrative is. We may have to examine how we tell our story to our community.

We have to take all of this into consideration with the changing landscape that seems to have occurred - people are waiting longer to get married, have children, and, in general, are having fewer children.
