Today’s Focus on the Future is centered on continuing to be immersed in the curriculum review process.
If I’m re-elected, I want to make sure that the curriculum review process that began when the Board hired Dr. Chris Reuter, and subsequently Jake Misiak, to serve as Director of Teaching & Learning continues on the path that it is on. I’ve been proud to serve on the Teaching & Learning Committee and I’ve been proud of the work that our teachers, leadership, and our students have done to spend the time reviewing various options for us.
This level of review was sorely needed that I helped direct in 2021 when I shared my thoughts and concerns when I served on the Committee that interviewed candidates for the Director of T&L and subsequently voted to choose Dr. Reuter.
When I was elected in 2021, one of the items I wanted to focus on was aligning our curriculum so that the transitions from elementary school to middle school to high school were as smooth and seamless as possible. Back then I would hear from parents and teachers that the first few weeks of middle school were spent trying to level set and get all students to be at the same level of understanding before they could move forward. Why? Because each elementary school had put emphasis on different topics at different paces.
I’m proud of the work that I’ve done in this space and look forward to spending the time and effort diving deep into reviewing the curriculum that is placed in front of us for our consideration.
