Q: How do you plan to attract teachers of color to our district to better represent all of our students?
TP: We could work with area colleges and universities to encourage a “homegrown” type of approach.
At a high level, we need to create a general culture where teachers are pounding down our doors to work in the District for any number of positive reasons. Associated with this is to show potential teachers of color and other diverse backgrounds that we are welcoming and that we back up our words with actions.
While it may be true that the minority pool of talent in teaching may not be high, that by itself should not preclude or prevent us from creating an environment where we are set up as a District to make ourselves attractive.
Ultimately, though, something like this most likely will take time and require diligence.
