As a Board and School District, how would you combat or address, misinformation on the School District being relayed to the public and in social media?

My answer to “As a Board and School District, how would you combat or address, misinformation on the School District being relayed to the public and in social media?” from the Germantown Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum:

There can be a tremendous amount of gaslighting and omitting of the facts that occur in social media to help fit a narrative. There really isn’t an easy way to truly combat it in a highly effective way.

In some ways, the fact that we live-stream, record, and make available all of our committee and board meetings may help. We can direct people to what actually happened or was discussed.

But the fact is that sometimes people aren’t happy with us because of a decision that was made and there ends up being a negative reaction or they simply want to create and believe their own narrative.

I think, generally speaking, sometimes the best way to move forward is to ignore it and continue to communicate through official means.

If questions are asked or information needs to be shared, address it and include the facts that we can provide.
